Mangoes
Was it December?
I can’t remember and who could bother with the month when the important task of eating mangoes was at hand.
Sandwiched between rainy seasons, the mango trees would burst out with juicy yellow mangoes making a very happy island nation.
Cut it down the side and into convex cubes (AKA Hedgehog style), or rip the peel with my teeth.
A little bit raw, tart with salt and vinegar.
A little bit ripe dipped in salt and chilies.
Sticky juice dripped shamelessly down my chin and traveled down my hands and arms.
It is not a dainty act, but delicious with tropical flavors dancing and confident.
Confidence is an attribute I admire in my fruit.
